Deontay Wilder says he was ‘trying to kill’ Tyson Fury in third fight and remains convinced that Brit was ‘cheating’

Deontay Wilder has spelled out just how deep his hatred for Tyson Fury runs, almost a year on from the conclusion of their trilogy.

Despite exchanging insults, the rival heavyweights had always been on good terms up until their rematch in 2020 when Fury’s stoppage victory drastically altered their relationship.

What had previously only been light-hearted press conference barbs suddenly developed into a genuine hatred between the pair as Wilder accused the Gypsy King of ‘cheating’ to win the fight.

Fury did not respond well after the Bronze Bomber baselessly claimed he loaded his gloves amid a slew of wild post-defeat excuses.

The pair met again in a thrilling trilogy fight a year later, which the Brit won by KO.

Now, almost a year on from what arguably should have been the end of their rivalry, the American has insisted the hatred still exists.

Asked if he’ll ever be friendly with Fury, Wilder told FightHype: “Nah, never, because I know the truth behind that.

“I don’t condone cheating and s*** like that. I know that, no matter what people say.

“People and analysts say, ‘If he did have something in his glove, why did you not go to the authorities?’

“I wish I was in front of them. I would grab their collar and put them close to my face so we can be eye-to-eye, face-to-face, so much that my breath would touch their face.

“And I would tell them, ‘Why the f*** would I go to the authorities when I have an opportunity to release my own energy and put my hands upon him and the possibility of trying to kill him and get paid millions of dollars doing it?

“Why would I go to the authorities? Ok I go to the authorities, they lock him up, then what’s next? That’s it.

“A good write-up. Okay, we proved our case. Nobody getting fed. What justice has that done? That don’t make no sense.

“That sounds like somebody that’s non-confrontational, not in combat sports because their mindset ain’t set on combat, it’s set on being nice — that don’t even make sense to me.

“We are in the hurt business. This is what we do. I can hurt you and get paid doing it. That sounds like a sweet deal to me.”

It was recently revealed that the WBC have mapped out a path which could see Wilder become mandatory for a fourth fight with Fury in future.

When asked if he wants to face his rival again, Wilder replied: “Oh most definitely.

“I’m back, I’m in the division, I’m in the business.

“Who’s here, if they bring a hell of a fight, let’s do it. I’ve never ducked or dodged anyone.”
