The winger could be set to make his international debut after impressing in United’s run to the FA Youth Cup final
Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho could be set to make his international debut later this month after being named in the Argentina squad.
The 17-year-old has made the cut for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Ecuador. The call-up comes amid what has been an impressive season for the teenager.
Garnacho has been one of United’s stars as the U18s have reached the final of the FA Youth Cup. The winger recently scored in the 3-0 win over Wolves to book their place in the showpiece event for the first time since 2011.
The youngster is yet to make his senior debut at Old Trafford but has clearly caught the eye of Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni. Garnacho previously played for Spain at youth level.
He’ll be aiming to make his international debut as Argentina host Venezuela on Friday, March 25, before travelling to Ecuador on Wednesday, March 30. La Albiceleste have already qualified for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Garnacho is joined in the squad by a number of other teenagers, with Inter Milan duo Franco and Valentin Carboni, Villarreal midfielder Tiago Geralnik and Real Madrid’s Nicolas Paz all earning call-ups. There are plenty of familiar names in the squad, with the likes of Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria named in the 33-man squad. Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez is also included, having signed for Pep Guardiola’s side in January.
